Saunders

Saunders and I go way back . . . to the day that he was born! I was housesitting for Pilot Mountain Llamas, and decided to take my coworker and husband-to-be back to the farm at lunchtime to see the llamas. What I didn't expect to find was a little lifeless llama lump on that cold March day. Saunders was born a month prematurely. Luckily I was able to reach the farm owners by phone and they called in reinforcements.

Saunders is a big guy, and after a somewhat rowdy adolescence he has mellowed to a calm llama. This calmness does not extend to toenail trimming, however! He has super fine white wool which produces a fabulous yarn. Of course, he likes to roll in the red clay so his wool stays peach-colored until it is sheared and washed.

Saunders has been in one llama show, a parade, and a couple "Blessings of the Animals" at local churches. These days he is content to live at Signal Hollow and just think of his days of past fame as a pleasantly distant memory! I really do love the big lug.
